The Bergen
Connection 'On Granite'
The Vikings return, this time in force, but of the most
civilised kind. This 8-piece features Bergen-based
players Dag Arnesen (piano) Wenche Gausdal (voice) Sigurd
Ulveseth (double bass) and Frank Jacobsen (drums)
alongside the North East's Keith Morris (bass gtr and
bari sax), Lewis Watson (tenor/soprano) with alto sax and
trumpet/flugel to be confirmed. Centred on Arnesen's
suite 'On Granite' but including several completely new
pieces by Morris, Watson and Arnesen specially written
for the project, this is the launch gig of a week-long
regional tour. Can't wait to get started. Don't know the
price, but certainly no more than £7.

Just East of Jazz
An early return, true, but they really are marvellous,
have a whole swathe of new pieces, and are very keen to
play here again. Hard to resist.
