| FRANK O' HARA
ON YOUR NERVE DONNY O'ROURKE Poet, journalist and broadcaster. For many years produced arts programmes for STV, also worked on The Late Show, producing a fine film about Frank O'Hara. Edited Dream State, still the key anthology of younger Scottish poets: a new edition should be out shortly. His Polygon volume, The Waist Band, has been a considerable best seller for a small market in a small country. |
| Immaculate
Frank! Immaculate Frank! Painters wore out their pencils! In the plans of even abstract artists you always figured -- during the bounteous 50s more than one paper shortage was probably down to you. You were in the frame to rub out Apollinaire's record. In heaven he was leafing through your portfolio of portraits, all sweaty nervous thumbs.... Maybe it had to do with the Golden Mean something mean anyway after 6 or so martinis. In the end you couldn' t see an opening without putting your plimsolled foot in it (sooner or later) Bitchy, twitchy after a pitcher or more sworn off bed for all but frolics keeping it up till it got you down going on and on, last man out. |
