WIRED DIARIES
The
Waiting Room
It's not that Herbert leads a particularly
busy or interesting life -- far from it. But
every now and then he embarks on a project which
requires some documentation from him; or he goes
somewhere (thanks to the kind offices of the
British Council) that so impinges on his meagre
consciousness that he takes a note or two, and
snaps a few photos.
He's not great at 'documentation', so usually
cheats; and he's a lousy traveller who would
never leave a three-or-four street compass if not
paid to do so. He's terrified of all 'foreign'
locations (London and Manchester are as 'foreign'
to him as Kuala Lumpur). He can't 'rough it'
though he always buys a Rough Guide. And
yet when he finally accumulates the nerve to go
anywhere he always falls in love with another
little nexus of three or four streets. His
internal map therefore links up parts of Madrid
with Madras, Moscow with Valladolid, Athens with
Edinburgh, Dublin with Dundee, and Calcutta with...well,
with Dundee again, basically.
So if you fancy a bit of desktop travel, or if
you wish to review the progress of some project
or other, check in here. It's being updated even
more slowly than everything else, so be patient.
Actually, he never seems to get going on
this, but some recent stuff is available on his blog : why not try that while he tries to
find the files for rest of the first Russian trip
(it would seem unlikely he'll ever get the Indian
stuff together, but who knows? Certainly not him.)
